Advanced Calibration Technician

Job Description

The Advanced Calibration Technician is responsible for performing high‑level calibration, verification, and troubleshooting of a wide range of measurement and test equipment to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with applicable standards. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently on complex calibration tasks. The Advanced Calibration Technician supports internal teams and customers by maintaining calibrated instruments for temperature, pressure, and other related process controllers. This position plays a critical role in ensuring equipment meets regulatory, customer, and industry requirements. Local field or remote work is expected up to 70% of the time. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform field and in-house calibrations, configurations, repairs, and other related services for pressure and temperature process controllers.
  • Provide service to instrumentation, controls, and field elements, including systems products and communications protocols connecting the instrumentation.
  • Understand procedures and utilize documentation to maintain compliance in the calibration field.
  • Perform field wiring of process controllers, heaters, instrumentation, and sensors.
  • Identify opportunities and create sales of equipment utilized in process control systems while at customer sites.
  • Provide calibration documentation and required service reports upon completion of work.
  • Become a specialist in one or more areas of process controls (calibrations, configurations, instrumentation, products)
  • Facilitate and record preventative maintenance for field service and calibrations equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety requirements and prioritize personal and workplace safety during calibration activities.
  • Willingness to assist Sure Controls associates.
  • Accountable to committed tasks.
  • Communicates openly with customers in an effective and positive manner regarding calibration status, results, limitations, and recommendations. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma

Experience and/or Training: 1 year related experience and/or training performing calibration of industrial instrumentation; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of mechanical and electrical components. Strong Communication skills (listening, questioning, speaking), Time Management skills. Experience working with customers and vendors. Ability to learn multiple product lines and customer industry equipment.

Licenses/Certificates: A valid driver’s license, insurance and a reliable automobile are requirements of this role.

Technology/Equipment: Computing/Software Skills including Microsoft Office Suite, and Fluke Multimeter

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Two-year degree or related technical certificate and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience and/or Training: 3+ years related experience and/or training performing calibration of industrial instrumentation; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of mechanical and electrical components. Strong Communication skills (listening, questioning, speaking), Time Management skills. Experience working with customers and vendors. Ability to learn multiple product lines and customer industry equipment.

Licenses/Certificates: A valid driver’s license, insurance and a reliable automobile are requirements of this role.

Technology/Equipment: Computing/Software Skills including Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint. Required to have a proficiency with: Fluke Multimeter, Handheld Process Calibrator, Thermocouples, RTD’s, and IR sensors, Heaters, Pressure transducers/ load cells, basic and advanced control systems and process controllers, Eurotherm iTools® software, and Chessell / DAQ products.

Physical and Mental Demands

Sit or stand for extended periods of time.

Speak and hear communications.

Occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.

Travel (Local and Midwest) is required.

May be required to work hours outside of the typical 7:30am – 4:30pm day.

Provide on-call phone service for nights and weekends (3-4x per year).

Working Environment

The noise level in the work environment is from moderate to loud. Occasional remote work may be an option for this position. Travel is approximately 70% (breakdown 90% Local, 10% Midwest). May be required to work hours outside of the typical 7:30am-4:30pm day. Shared on-call duty for nights and weekends (3-4x per year).
