Electrical Controls Designer

Job Description

The Electrical Controls Designer is responsible for designing machine and process control systems as required by the customer in support of overall project objectives. This role translates functional requirements and engineering specifications into detailed electrical schematics, panel layouts, and bills of materials while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·          Creates 2D and 3D drawings of enclosures for integration projects.

·          Develop and maintain base ePlan designs used for starting points.

·          Subject Matter Expert (SME) for CAD tools used to support electrical design.

·          Designs panel build projects.

·          Assists engineering team with creation of parts/macros.

·          Verifies that schematics are up to current Sure Controls design standards.

·          Makes recommendations to electrical engineers during project scope and initial design.

·          Albe to select parts/components from standard listing using specifications provided by engineer.

·          Manages ePlan database by developing parts and standards.

·          Understands and maintains UL standards and certifications.

·        Creates reports for automation of the panel shop, including wire routing/wire specs, wire labels, terminal labels, device tags, and enclosure cutouts.

·        Ensure designs conform to company engineering and safety standards.

·          Prioritizes work schedule effectively.

·          Communicates openly with project team in an effective and positive manner.

·          Willingness to assist Sure Controls associates.

·          Accountable to committed tasks.

·          Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Two-year degree or related technical certificate and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience and/or Training: 3+ years of related experience and/or education/training in electrical design with emphasis on controls. Strong Communication skills (listening, questioning, speaking), Time Management skills.

Technology/Equipment: Computing/Software Skills including Microsoft Office Suite, and experience with design software, such as AutoCad, AutoCad Electrical, or ePlan.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education Four-year degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience and/or Training 7+ years related experience and/or education/training in electrical controls design. Strong Communication skills (listening, questioning, speaking), Time Management skills.

Technology/Equipment: Computing/Software Skills including Microsoft Office Suite and prior experience using ePlan to automate panel build process. 

Physical and Mental Demands

Sit or stand for extended periods of time.

Speak and hear communications.

Occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Occasional travel (local, national, international) is required.

May be required to work hours outside of the typical 7:30a.m. – 4:30p.m. day.

Working Environment

The noise level in the work environment is from quiet to moderate. Occasional remote work may be an option for this position. Occasional travel is required up to 10% (local, national, international) . May be required to work hours outside of the typical 7:30a.m. – 4:30p.m. day.
