Mechanical Lead – Robot Units

Job Description

The Mechanical Lead – Robot Units is responsible for mechanical ownership of Sure Controls’ Robot Units extruded aluminum platform product line. This role combines mechanical design, hands-on fabrication, packaging, shipment coordination and oversight of any other team members assisting with these functions. Initially accountable for end-to-end execution, this role evolves into technical leadership focused on design standardization, modular strategy, and coordination of build and fulfillment support as the line scales.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Design custom extruded aluminum platform systems using CAD (IronCAD will be the preferred software for Robot Units – any history with SolidWorks or AutoCAD will be sufficient).
  • Develop detailed assemblies, part drawings, and bills of material.
  • Ensure designs are structurally sound, cost-effective, and scalable.
  • Cut, assemble, and build platform systems hands-on/oversee additional team members assisting with the build.
  • Package systems for safe shipment and coordinate outbound logistics/oversight of shipping team.
  • Track material usage and support accurate cost estimating. 
  • Serve as technical lead for the Robot Units line as growth occurs.
  • Develop and document design standards and best practices.
  • Identify opportunities for modularization and margin improvement.
  • Support sales team with technical application guidance.
  • Facilitate supplier quality/delivery issues with supplier management team.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Functional Technical Skills

  • The Mechanical Designer should have a familiarity with the technologies Sure Controls Supports and have a proficiency in:
  • Solid Works or similar CAD Design software


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma

Experience and/or Training: 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of mechanical components. Strong Communication skills (listening, questioning, speaking), Time Management skills. Experience working with customers and vendors.

Licenses/Certificates: N/A

Technology/Equipment: Computing/Software Skills including Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Associates or BA/BS Degree

Experience and/or Training: 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of mechanical components. Strong Communication skills (listening, questioning, speaking), Time Management skills. Experience working with customers and vendors.

Licenses/Certificates: N/A

Technology/Equipment: Computing/Software Skills including Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Ability to alternate between office-based design work and shop-floor assembly work.
  • Frequent use of computer and CAD software for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Manual dexterity required for assembly and mechanical tasks.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during build activities.
  •  Ability to manage multiple priorities in a growth-oriented environment.
  • Occasional travel
  • May be required to work hours outside of the typical 7:30a.m. – 4:30p.m. day)

Working Environment

  • Combination of office setting and light industrial/shop environment.
  • Exposure to typical shop equipment and tools.
  • Moderate noise levels in build environment.
  • Minimal travel expected; occasional customer or supplier visits may occur.
  • May be required to work hours outside of the typical 7:30a.m. – 4:30p.m. day)
